REMASTERED MARINERS – EXPLAINING MERCHANT SHIPPING

Remastered Mariners is a channel run by a group of current and former merchant seafarers, looking to help explain how one of Britain’s most important industries is largely overlooked by the public.

For decades organisations have tried to overcome this “sea-blindness” by various campaigns highlighting the importance of seafarers in the day to day life of those ashore. Unfortunately even after this the most common response to someone saying “I’m in the Merchant Navy” is “Oh, so that’s not the REAL Navy then?”

Even for those considering a career at sea, the resources for what life onboard is actually like, or what even the point of the job is are painfully thin, and give no true indication of just how necessary the ships that visit our coast are to our lives.

Remastered Mariners aims to develop via video, podcast and other mediums a resource for those looking to understand the maritime industry or looking to begin a life at sea, whilst also providing a news and information centre for an area overlooked or misunderstood by most commentators.
